I have just finished the article on participation trophies. After reading i feel as if i am sided with James. I believe that is better to have earned a trophies then to just receive one that every one gets. This will help kids with a life lesson that they can live with. Also l I think that this will help the kids strive for more and feel accomplished by earning their accolades.
This week work was somewhat casual. I had the normal jobs and things to do that i usually do. The other worker who does the same stuff as me had been sick at the starting of the week. This made the machines harder to clean out . I came in on a day i usually do not for this reason. That way the machines were still good to run and their pumps working properly.

I have just finished reading the 15 traits of an ideal employee. I belive that the most important trait is Autonomous. This means to be able to do tasks independently. This is important becuase at the work place everyone usually has their own task and need to complete it in a timely manner. I beileve i have this trait becasue i do what i see that is needed along with listening to instructions. I do not need extra assistance all the time.
My expirence this week was as usual. Except i spent a decent amount of time stacking wheels which we use to grind the metals. The wheels are essental and there are many in use at once to grind and they are ususally attached to the head of the machines. I stacked two different pallets of them along with putting away several boxes of them. I stacked about 200 individual wheels this week.
This week the work load for the shop has been heavier. This means that i have been shoveling out the machines and dirt tanks. Me and the other employee who does similar work have been helping each other. I will assists him in wrapping parts to be loaded. He assists me by shoveling with me to keep the machines clean.
After watching the TED talk video it has made me think about the little things that help people out. I help people out at work very often. My maintenance of the machines is helpful to the shop so they can keep running the machine. It is also helpful for who is running it because it can mean more or less hours sometimes. Specifically yesterday i help a co worker by loading something into his van. This way he can continue working and not have to stop his machine. This weeks experience was mostly casual. Seen some of the usual part drivers. Also would take care of the usual jobs. Although the shop has been very busy lately.I have had to maintain the machines a little more often. However because of the heavier work load on the machines they dirt tanks shared between machines had to be emptied. Along with the normal one the travels from machine to machine. Doing this is a little different for i have to climb by the tanks after hooking chains to the crane then hooking to the hopper. After that i have to lift it up and put it on the forklift. From there i have to take it to a large container outside which i then have to dump it in. This has to be done somewhat often i am just not the one always doing it
This trimester i have slowly been making progress towards my Goal. I still believe that it is possible for me to accomplish. My goal is to be able to operate one of the many machines in my shop. Their are several different types of machines. They operate in many different ways and can do different things.
So far i have been learning new things about a couple of the machines. I have also learned how to operate the crane which is essential for using the machines. It is needed to put the parts on to the table to grind. now able to use this i am closer to being capable to run a machine. I am still learning and think by the end of this trimester i will have completed my goal. This week a work was very basic . Did most of the usual work. Maintenance on the machines mostly. This week was short for me because we slowed up a little bit. Hoping work will pick back up.
After reading that article one particular quote was my favorite. The quote was "how high does a sycamore? If you cut it down you'll never know" by the cartoon character Pocahontas. I like this quote because it is good advice to seeing things through and how far you can get with something. Another good piece of advice i have gotten was from my employer. He told me to makes sure i am absorbing all the information i can while i can. i think this is something helpful for everyone to do to better them in life. This week was like most weeks.I spent time operating the forklift to move parts. Along with using it to move dirt tanks. Also spent time cleaning the machines when needed. However this morning it has been in the upper 40's so i got to see the fog they were talking about.
I read the article and i found the the author's point to be interesting. What i thought the theme was that schools first priority should be to make better people then improve skills in subjects first. I thought that this was interesting because it could possibly help to make better community's. It also makes sense because school is a place for learning and i feel that this would help young students have better attitudes. The article also talks about the difference between resume and eulogy virtues. The difference is that resume are the skills you have and eulogy virtues are the things you will known and remembered for. My experience this week has been nothing out of the ordinary. However work is beginning to pick up. Its much better when its busy because it determines the kind of work i do. When it is more on the busy side i spend more time driving the forklift and helping move and wrap parts. I rather have work like that because it keeps me more occupied and i know what my tasks will be.
My work environment is also a little different this way. this way i will be more in the front where i can see trucks coming in. if it is slow i end up cleaning old machines and doing dirtier work. If my shop is where i commit to i would be more or less contempt with the environment. The only thing i would change is everyone contributing to keeping the shop clean. The shop will get dirty regardless but a little help would be nice. This has been my first week taking advantage of my career. I have only worked one day so far this week.It has been a little slower as every has been moved to shorter shifts. My shifts however are not as effected as much. Reason being is my job mainly entails maintenance and up keep on the machines. Along with loading and unloading trucks. However i have taken on to doing something new that came along with me being more comfortable and adapt with my forklift skills. I have learned to stack pallets on each other to move multiple parts at one time.
Adrui's video was very interesting. I was very curious on how many times he was going to have to try before u had a success. My prediction was much larger then the results. However i could see that that kid was prepared to try until her persevered and wasn't going to give up easily. As if he knew it was going to work eventually. A task at work that once intimidated me at work but i have now done is empty the chip tank. it looks as a challenge because the chips has to be dumped into a tall tank and taken out of a small spot. but it is actually just the getting it on the forks that is the challenge. after that it is fairly easy. |
